A Promethean shift in consciousness- When machines can think better than we can what do we have left?
GPT-5 has arrived with a slew of shiny new features that sound intimidating to those who aren't familiar with technical terminology. Lower Hallucination Rates? Integrated Tool Orchestration? Larger Context Windows and Multimodality?? π΅βπ« New technical capabilities typically aren't easily digestible for most.
Online discourse over AI is wildly misleading and for the most part, quite negative.*Cue the doom and gloom, predictive programming, armageddon narrative.* YouTube has been flooded with AI-generated videos and content creators promising to help you build an AI app or service-based company quickly to make a million dollars in 30 days. Companies large and small are scrambling trying to figure out how to implement new tools, up-skill current employees, and keep up with the times, but it feels like tech is speeding up and time is running out.
AI is known, yet misunderstood by the average person despite rapid adoption rates and increasing daily usage. The future feels exciting to some and uncertain to many. Here's where content strategy comes in.
What is Content Strategy?
On the surface, content strategy appears to be the planning, execution, and management of a brand's content lifecycle. It's carried out very differently across industries, companies, and even down to the leadership level within an organization. Some people prioritize it, others don't see the value.
Behind the veil, content strategy is the cross-functional connection between all aspects of the business that can make or break a brand's reputation, longevity, and perception over time. Companies who prioritize this never regret it.
I see the benefits of a good content strategy as synonymous with a good financial investment that is essential to the foundation of your portfolio long term. It feels risky to invest in it at first, but over time, when good decisions are made alongside calculated risks, the energy invested compounds and eventually rewards are undeniable and exponential.
Connection IS the Future
With tools like GPT-5 becoming available to the average person, it provides an unprecedented opportunity for any individual to think like a VC-backed startup. And despite the current fears echoing through different spheres, it's not the technical aspects of a strategy in the Digital Age that make the biggest difference, it's the human ones. It doesn't level the playing field, it LEVELS the playing field. Like OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman says, one day soon we will see the first one-person billion dollar company. I'm willing to bet that person will have a world-class content strategy.
In the past, logic and skills-based intelligence were the dominant traits of high-performers. As technology advances, machines will outperform us in these areas (they already are). The Future is asking for deep connection. Technical connections, APIs, and Agents will continue to improve. Human connection must do the same.
Connecting the Dots Between Tech, Art, Science, and Spirituality
To think like a Master Content Strategist, is to think holistically, not just across fields, but across disciplines. It is polymathic in nature, much like the future of humanity. We are all being asked to connect the dots within our own psyche on an individual and collective level, observe the new image formed through these connections, and be inspired by it.
When machines can think better than we can what do we have left?
The answer to this is apparent everywhere. It's up to all of us to be curious enough to see it and courageous enough to utilize the revolutionary tools we now have at our fingertips to make magic with it.
Wizards, grab your wands. It's game time.
